About Us

Our Mission

Friends of Islands Initiatives, Inc. is an IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit organized in 2017 to address the challenges facing small island communities.

Most island communities are unique in that they are run like a town but are really a sovereign nation. Their resources are far more limited than larger nations, yet their infrastructure needs are very similar. As a result, grants from organizations like ours can have an enormous impact in communities stretched so thin.

Our mission is to share information and provide financial support for global nonprofit initiatives that seek to solve the particular economic, social, educational, cultural, and environmental challenges (including the inevitable natural disasters) facing small island communities.

In supporting these problem-solving efforts, Friends of Islands Initiatives fosters programs that encourage community cooperation, responsibility, and preparedness for these challenges.
