Nevis International Secondary School (NISS) is Nevis’ only private high school for students in Forms 1-5. It is located in an architecturally traditional former St. John’s primary school provided by the Nevis Island Administration. The school is a cooperative effort between the private school and the government to provide an education for those students who can thrive in a school with a student-centered curriculum. Its well-qualified teachers are headed by Nevisian school director Joy Napier, a graduate of Wellesley College in Boston with a lengthy resume of accomplishments.
NISS is committed to equipping its diverse community of students to succeed locally, regionally, and internationally. Its students have performed outstandingly well on international CSEC exams, as well as gathering distinctions on islandwide competitions. NISS placed third in the St. Kitts Bottling Company’s “Unlocking the Creativity in Me” School Art Competition; provided the 2015 junior representative for the St. Kitts and Nevis Ministry of Tourism at national and international events, including the Caribbean Youth Congress in Curacao; and placed in the islandwide Spelling Bee. Napier herself has earned the distinction of being the St. Kitts and Nevis CARICOM Youth Ambassador. NISS is a school where teachers, administrators, and students excel.
Friends of Islands Initiatives, Inc. seeks to highlight the necessary infrastructure improvements and equipment required to facilitate the NISS educational program. Thanks to the generosity of its 2017 donors, Friends of Islands Initiatives provided NISS with a copier drum for a previously donated machine, as well as a pop-up tent for off campus activities. In 2018, Friends of Islands Initiatives provided materials to refurbish a repurposed building for classroom use.
