Local Nonprofits

Swim to WinFriends of Islands Initiatives, Inc. is proud to support local charities in their efforts to raise community and educate community members in various areas.

Following are some of the local nonprofits we have supported in recent years, in addition to our ongoing initiatives of providing assistance to Alexandra Hospital, to Nevis International Secondary School, and against common invasive species.

We encourage others to apply for a grant to support their causes that better our island.

Nevis Aquatic and Sailing Center (NASC)

NASC is a registered nonprofit in Nevis that needed water safety items for their community programs. NASC enrolled more than 30 children in their sailing program and is juggling class times to accommodate more kids. Programs include Youth Sailing Lessons, Adult Sailing lessons, Swim classes for beginners, Lifeguard and CPR training, and Marine Conservation workshops.

Friends of Islands Initiatives, Inc. has funded items for personal safety, including life preservers for trainers and students, a waterproof first-aid kit, and two way VHF radios for communication between the boats, land, and the coast guard.

Nevis Department of Youth

The Department of Youth, in collaboration with Swim To Win, hosted Nevisian children at its Youth Beach Games, which brings awareness of the importance of our marine environment and the ways in which our lifestyle practices can and have affected us. Each day’s activities included games, demonstrations, arts and crafts, mini swimming lessons, and a beach clean-up exercise.

Friends of Islands Initiatives, Inc. provided Arts & Crafts Supplies, Costumes, and Supplies for the Beach Games, as well as water and a port-a-potty.
